50 years at the pipe: Silvio Mrohs celebrates the anniversary of the referee with an impressive balance

If someone can look back on 5,000 guided games and it manages to climb 5 leagues in 5 years, along with many others, this is an expression of perseverance, passion and conviction. Silvio Mrohs, referee of the Osnabrück group and member of SV Viktoria 08 Georgsmarienhütte, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, just like B+D. An occasion that invites you to pause, remind and value.

Silvio Mrohs - referee

How it all started: from the youth player to the new perspective

As a teenager, Silvio Mrohs dreamed of making it into the Bundesliga as a football player. His talent brought him to a viewing course for the Lower Saxony selection. However, the big breakthrough failed to materialize. The impulse finally came out of the family: his father, even as a referee, recognized the potential of another path to top -class sport.

"I quickly realized that the path upwards as a referee is more realistic," recalls Mrohs. At the age of only 16, he took part in the referee course in 1975. The beginning of a career that was soon shaped by success.

Rapid ascent and diverse roles in football

The promotion through the leagues went rapidly: Within five years, Mroh's games led games from the district league to the association league. At the age of only 24, he became the youngest referee in the amateur Oberliga North. At the same time, he remained connected to active football, initially as a player until 1983, later as a youth coach in the clubs of his children.

In 1992 he made the leap on the DFB list. As a line judge, he accompanied Uwe Kemmling in the regional league at that time. He was also successful as a team manager: with his U19 team, he played in the Regionalliga Nord against teams such as FC St. Pauli, Holstein Kiel or Werder Bremen, partly with entrances over 500 kilometers.

With the reaching of the age limit in 2004, his career ended at the association level - but not on the pitch. "I wanted to stay true to football," says Mrohs, who is still active in the district class.

Between highlights and formative moments

One of the most memorable moments of his career is a game between Schalke 04 and Leverkusen, which caused a sensation for three references: "Despite three red cards and enormous outnumbered, it was 1: 1-the Bild newspaper, of course, fell on it."

Another game remains in the memory because of its unusual dynamics: His memory leads of a game between Lüneburg and Concordia Hamburg. Mr. Mrohs was always known to be very close to the ball through speed and fitness. So he had the best perspective for what is happening. In this game he even got the player to overtake during the attack. A referee also has to keep responsibility in the background and not to attract unnecessary in the game. However, overtaking the striker had the opposite effect and also led to a poor evaluation of the observer.

Even difficult moments made him stronger. As a teenager, he was physically attacked in a heated game - a situation that would have meant the end for many. "It only encouraged me more in my way."

In a game against an opponent from Spain, Mr. Mroh was supposed to whistle with a sponsor. Unfortunately, this was not on site, which did not stop him from leading the game.
"In a free kick, the disadvantaged team was so applied that a player gave me a kick in my butt out of resentment about the decision."
When this was rated with a red card, the young referee got a blow to his head from behind. In this situation, the game should have been canceled, which would have led to the negative outcome for the said team. However, his decision was to be continued, which may not have been ideal afterwards.
"After that, I even needed the help of the folders to get away safely."

In retrospect, this day frightened him less, but rather strengthened it in my project.

One of the most emotional highlights, however, was the farewell game in the association league in 2004 - led to the lines together with his father and son. "Three generations in a team - that was a perfect end to the association league."

What drives him: passion and character

What Silvio Mrohs keeps on the pitch is quickly explained: "The love of sport, encounters with different characters and physical movement." His experiences as a referee also helped him professionally outside of the square.

Former contact with B+D: An aha moment for the world of referees

At the age of 19, Mrohs met B+D for the first time  on an arbitrator course. "Mr. Baaser presented his products at the time. It was a real revolution for us. Suddenly not only football, but the referee was the focus of the range offered."

"Then we got everything served for our requirements as on the silver tablet"

The introduction of the FOX 40-pipe was particularly memorable. "A highlight when it came onto the market."

50 years of Silvio Mrohs

For the next generation: courage, communication and attitude

Silvio Mrohs today gives young referees on the way: the courage to assert themselves and the willingness to communicate.

Preserving the unapproachability as a referee towards the players is not always the best. Today it is sometimes very different and dealt with more contact and communication. I think that is the better way "

"An impartial who prevails on the square with 2 teams can also prevail in life!"

A life for football - with attitude, humor and passion
